   Insurance that protects the homeowner against the damage and theft of their possessions.

Contract for deed
A contract for deed is an agreement between the seller (vendor) and buyer (vendee) for the purchase of real property in which the payment of all or a portion of the selling price is deferred.

Contract of purchase
An agreement between parties for the sale of real estate. In some states it is synonymous with a Purchase Agreement, Sales Agreement, or Land Contract.

Contract of sale
A purchase transaction in which the buyer receives possession of the property, but the seller retains title.

Contract rent
The rental income as stipulated by the parties in a lease.

Contract sales price
The full purchase price as stated in the contract.

Contract to purchase
A document in which a property's buyer and seller approve the price and other terms of the transfer of title.

Contractor
In the construction industry, a contractor is one who contracts to erect buildings or portions of them.

Contractual lien
A legal claim against property as a result of a voluntary contract, such as a mortgage.

Contribution
The appraisal principle that states that the value of any component of a property is what it gives to the value of the whole or what its absence detracts from that value.

Controlled business arrangements
As defined under the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), an arrangement or combination in which an individual or a firm has more than a 1 percent interest in a company to which the individual or firm regularly refers business.

Controlled growth
A set of restrictions set by local government that governs the amount, type and density of new construction.
